The Golden Vines, often dubbed the ‘Oscars of fine wine,’ is embarking on a remarkable homecoming, returning to London for its sixth lavish awards ceremony. This year’s extraordinary celebration will take place from November 6-8, spanning multiple venues throughout the city, and aims to honor not only London’s vibrant hospitality landscape but also notable international achievements in the world of fine wine.
A Journey Through Wine Events
Initiated in 2021, The Golden Vines has seen a journey through renowned cities such as Florence, Madrid, Paris, and most recently, Miami. Lewis Chester, a co-founder based in London, shared, “We have always intended to return to this city, as it remains the epicenter of the fine wine universe.”
Luxurious Ticket Experience
Tickets for this year’s Golden Vines are priced at £10,000 (approximately $13,400), granting attendees access to an entire weekend of exquisite events. The festivities will kick off with the informal Frédéric Panaïotis La Paulée dinner, where renowned winemakers like Krug, Dom Pérignon, and Château d’Yquem will present their finest selections for guests to enjoy.
Chester humorously noted, “People do tend to indulge quite a bit. We ensure that the wine never runs out.” This lively opening dinner will be hosted at the Old Bailey, a historic venue that formerly held criminal trials.
The Gala Dinner
Saturday will be the highlight of the weekend with the Golden Vines gala, a departure from traditional wine gatherings that focuses on world-class dining and entertainment. Chester emphasized the event’s lively spirit, stating, “The enjoyment factor is what is truly transforming the fine wine scene … we aim to avoid the typical gathering of serious individuals in formal attire.”
Past events have featured prominent figures such as Kylie Minogue performing and Michelin-starred chef Mauro Colagreco crafting culinary delights. This year, acclaimed chef Simon Rogan, known for his innovative approach at the Lake District’s L’Enclume, will create a memorable dining experience.
Golden Vines Awards and Charitable Cause
The gala will also showcase the Golden Vines Awards, celebrated for honoring exceptional vintners and their craft. Categories range from rising star to best fine wine producer and best fine spirits brand, all decided by a panel of prestigious international experts.
An integral aspect of the evening will be the charitable auction, featuring exclusive wines and unique experiences. While the specific lots are yet to be confirmed, Chester hinted at the possibility of a chance to attend the Ballon D’or awards ceremony, stating, “That’s a bid I intend to place.”
Complementing these grand festivities will be a series of exclusive tastings, masterclasses, and unique travel experiences throughout the weekend.
The Golden Vines originated from Liquid Icons, a fine wine research initiative established by the late master sommelier Gérard Basset, who left behind an influential legacy in the wine industry following his passing in 2019. Proceeds from ticket sales and the auction directly support the Gérard Basset Foundation, which offers mentorship programs and scholarships for aspiring wine and hospitality professionals facing challenges in accessing the industry. “We are unique in our mission and scale,” Chester remarked. “If anyone faces a hurdle, we are here to help.”
