The hospitality industry is witnessing a significant shift as Groupe Lucien Barrière has acquired a majority stake in Loulou Groupe. This partnership unites two noted French families, both renowned for their commitment to exceptional service and memorable dining experiences.
With this investment, Groupe Lucien Barrière steps in as the primary shareholder, joining the original founders, Gilles and Claire Malafosse, along with associates Pierre-Antoine Capton and Jean-Philippe Cartier, in guiding the future of Loulou Groupe.
Loulou Groupe, drawing on the legacy of Parisian restaurateurs, quickly secured a place in the culinary spotlight with venues located in iconic settings, including the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, Pampelonne Beach in Ramatuelle, and the Riviera in Roquebrune Cap-Martin. In just a decade, the founders have created a distinct brand focused on authenticity.
Founded in 1912 by François André, Barrière has become synonymous with luxury in the hospitality sector. The fourth generation of the family, represented by Joy Desseigne-Barrière and Alexandre Barrière, is dedicated to nurturing and expanding the brand’s legacy both in France and beyond.
As a prominent player in the restaurant sector, Barrière leverages its 150 bars and restaurants as cornerstone assets for growth. The brand’s expansion includes the prestigious Fouquet’s, established in 1899 at the Champs-Elysées, which has recently opened locations in New York, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi. Strong brands are expected to drive Barrière’s growth strategy forward.
As the development strategy unfolds, both companies will focus on enhancing their positions in the high-end foodservice market. The collaboration enriches Barrière’s diverse portfolio with Loulou’s distinctive offerings. Loulou Groupe can now build on Barrière’s recognized expertise, positioning itself to redefine restaurant industry standards. The existing management team will continue to steer the development of the Loulou brand and its venues.
This alliance aims to bolster the Loulou brand by fostering its authenticity and culinary craftsmanship, especially in an era where restaurant concepts often lean towards standardization. A new Loulou location is set to debut in Courchevel on December 6, situated within the Hôtel Barrière Les Neiges, a luxury establishment at 1850 meters altitude, directly accessible to ski slopes. Guests will enjoy Loulou’s classic dishes presented with a unique Piedmont twist, all within a carefully designed Savoyard ambiance crafted by architect Corinne Sachot.
