As I stood onboard a yacht in Split’s scenic harbor, the city sprawled before me like a majestic crown formed by nature and human craftsmanship. The shimmering sea mirrored the lingering beauty of the mountainous backdrop, and I was left captivated.
“Anything else?” Branco, the yacht’s steward, inquired, breaking my reverie. I was pleasantly overwhelmed: in one hand, a refreshing gin and tonic; the other, an enticing platter of cheese and Dalmatian prosciutto. A book nestled under my arm, and binoculars jutted from my pocket. Could there be anything more to desire?
A friend had once mentioned the charm of Croatian hospitality: warm yet uncomplicated, reflective of its farmers and fishermen roots. “Imagine visiting family,” he had said, “You’ll be treated kindly, but don’t expect anything extraordinary.” Those words faded to insignificance; this experience was nothing short of exceptional.

Exploring the Adriatic Aboard Ohana
I embarked on my voyage aboard Ohana, a magnificent 160-foot mini-cruiser owned by the seasoned captain Josip Šerka, arranged through the luxury operator Goolets. Ohana, one of Goolet’s latest Dalmatico Super (DS) Yachts, was specifically designed for slow cruising along the Dalmatian Coast, prioritizing sustainability while accommodating guests in comfort. Recently updated, the yacht boasted 14 cabins, including master suites, a cinema, a children’s playroom, and newly painted azure interiors.
True to the spirit of Goolets charters, there was no rigid itinerary—we embraced freedom on the waters, embarking on a leisurely exploration of the islands beyond Split, basking in the sun’s glow.

A Culinary Delight at Sea
Branco’s anticipation set the stage for an unforgettable evening around the dinner table: sumptuous tuna steak paired with exquisite Croatian white wine, followed by aged Speyside whisky as the stars emerged. A fresh white bora wind swept in from the mainland, signaling a promise of crisp, clear skies for the following day.
Morning Journey through the Adriatic
The dawn broke into a stunning bluebird morning as we navigated through the gates of Split. From above, the islands resembled scattered pancake batter, golden and inviting against the vast azure of the Adriatic. Yet, as we drifted alongside them, their proximity surprised me, as the vastness of the sea unfolded unexpectedly.
The rugged island of Brač came into view, its pine-clad slopes and winding roads leading to farms dotted around the landscape—quaint homes emerging from the hills amidst olive groves and vineyards. We glided past Zlatni Rat, with its gentle pebbled beach reaching toward the turquoise sea, where kite surfers danced with the winds.

Exploration of Bol and Beyond
We anchored and took the dinghy ashore to Bol, eager for exploration. The journey to the summit of Vidova Gora was invigorating, with the ringing bells of a nearby church and the scent of garlic wafting through open windows. The ascent rewarded me with sweeping views of banded hills and the lively beach dotted with sunbathers.
As I returned to Ohana, lunch awaited me: delightful slow-roasted pork belly accompanied by succulent prawns cooked in a rich garlic and white wine sauce. Branco’s attentiveness made the meal even more satisfying.

Evenings at Vis
As we sailed towards Vis, the harbor welcomed us with its horseshoe bay, painted in soft golden hues as evening fell. Strolling through the bustling area, I reveled in the chorus of birds and the tranquil sounds of daily life, highlighted by children playing soccer and vendors selling their artistic crafts.
Vis felt alive with song and laughter. Young children darted through alleys, while others fished from quaint piers. The melodies of traditional tamburica folk songs filled the air, enhancing the lively ambiance.
Awakening in Hvar
I found solace in untouched dreams, awakening to vibrant sights of Hvar as we sailed into the harbor. The striking Venetian-style architecture beckoned, showcasing an island rich in history and modern leisure.

Ohana was anchored in a tranquil inlet, with crystal-clear waters revealing the seabed beneath us. The yacht offered a variety of water toys, and I chose a Sea-Doo, perfect for both speed and exploration. As I zipped through the water, the stunning landscape blended into a picturesque canvas of blue and green.

As I ventured out into the greater Adriatic, the water felt alive and ever-changing, inviting new adventures. With the sea stretching endlessly before me, I relished the freedom of exploring this vast ocean, the domain of my thoughts and the spirit of St. Vitus.
For luxury seekers, a week-long charter of Ohana accommodates up to 30 guests, with rates ranging from 90,000 to 120,000 Euros.
