A new chapter in luxury accommodation begins with the Riviera Maya EDITION at Kanai. Since its opening in late February 2024, the hotel has garnered attention for its high service standards and prime location near prominent resorts like the St. Regis and Etéreo, Auberge Resorts Collection. Recently unveiled is the remarkable Sky Rooftop Villa suite, priced at $40,000 per night. This remarkable price includes airport transfers for up to 12 guests, daily in-suite breakfast, and attentive service from a private pool/bar attendant throughout the day, alongside a dedicated cabana at the resort’s pier. The EDITION brand, a partnership between Ian Schrager and Marriott International, is expanding its footprint in the Caribbean and Latin America (CALA). A key addition to the region is Almare, a Luxury Collection Resort located on Isla Mujeres.
(Almare, a Luxury Collection Resort)
This resort, labeled as an “Adult All-Inclusive,” raises the bar within the segment thanks to its luxurious offerings. Representing Marriott’s first luxury all-inclusive venture in Mexico, Almare features 109 suites with ocean views and private balconies. Guests can indulge in seven dining options, a spa, and an infinity pool. Reviews highlight the skillful cocktails crafted by Eli at the Lobby Bar and the welcoming touches awaiting guests upon arrival on Isla Mujeres, including favorite martinis and champagne.
Note: The Presidential Suite spans nearly 1,500 square feet, with a solitary bedroom, two bathrooms, and a balcony; a sofa bed accommodates an additional two guests.
The SLS Playa Mujeres, situated in a gated community on the mainland, has also debuted. Highlighted by “The Envy” suite, this space incorporates three king bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, expansive living areas, and an outdoor terrace that showcases sea views.
Newly introduced is “SLS Elite,” offering enhanced benefits such as private lounge access, priority dining reservations, and entry to a private beach. This category includes two-level rooms featuring private roof decks with Jacuzzis, lounge spaces, and panoramic views. Guests will enjoy personalized check-in, butler services, a premium spirits package, and airport transfers.
The 20,000-square-foot Ciel Spa provides thermal baths, an outdoor tranquility pool, and 20 treatment rooms, with services including the CBD Hot Stone Massage and “Royal Citrus Ritual.”
(TROBBU Tulum)
As Tulum continues its evolution, the Trobbu Boutique Collection is slated to open all-inclusive luxury villas come January. Each of the ten villas will house three bedrooms, an infinity pool, a terrace with sun loungers, a bar and grill area, a living room, and a kitchen. A spa, fitness center, coffee shop, and boutique will enrich the offerings, alongside activities such as wine tastings, pizza-making, mixology classes, and excursions to cenotes—natural sinkholes that add to the allure of the region.
Expert Perspective
Jack Richards, president and CEO of Pleasant Holidays and Journese, addresses the evolving landscape of Mexico tourism. He notes that while immediate data from Tulum’s new airport is scarce, anticipation grows for increased demand in 2025. The Cancun International Airport remains the more popular option due to its extensive flight availability and transportation options.
The new airport in Tulum is expected to spur further development in tourism infrastructure, enhancing the region’s appeal. Marketing efforts for Tulum and its surroundings will increase as more flights from the U.S. are introduced.
