Bar Des Prés, once situated on Albemarle Street, has made its move to South Audley Street, a mere 15-minute stroll away. Its new location places it among upscale neighbors like The Connaught and The Audley Public House.
Since opening its doors in London in 2021, Bar Des Prés has established itself as a staple in Mayfair, thanks to its upscale aesthetics and Franco-Japanese culinary offerings. The restaurant’s popularity has led to expansions in Dubai and Saint-Barths, though the initial London branch didn’t escape criticism from some reviewers.
The new venue is even more daring in terms of design than its predecessor. Created by the Spanish design firm Lázaro Rosa Violán Studio, known for projects like The Bazaar by José Andrés in New York, the decor features a striking blue-and-cream spotted carpet, peacock-feather sofas, and rich cherry wood paneling.
More spacious seating arrangements are available, including larger tables with banquettes and a dimly lit private dining area located toward the back. However, it’s advisable to secure a stool at the counter to watch the culinary team at work.

Bar Des Prés has enhanced chef Lignac’s unique approach to Japanese and European cuisine for its London relaunch. Sushi remains a highlight, featuring a vast selection of California rolls, maki, and sashimi. New offerings also include a robata grill providing smoky skewers of chicken and beef.
The crab and avocado galette, with a hint of curry, stands out, but the menu also surprises with salmon-topped crispy rice boasting a chewy center and sweet, miso-glazed grilled eggplant.

While Bar Des Prés integrates French and Japanese elements, the focus on Asian flavors is compelling. Each dish is thoughtfully labeled in French as well. The wine list primarily showcases selections from France, deviating only slightly to include some sake.
In contrast to the food offerings, the cocktail menu draws inspiration from various global traditions. Options include mezcal palomas, yuzu and mango martinis, along with lemongrass margaritas and lavender elderflower spritzes.
Although Bar Des Prés has generated buzz among London’s food enthusiasts, it appears to be in a transitional phase. While the ambiance is polished, the service experience fell slightly short during a recent visit, though this could be attributed to early adjustments required in the new setting.
