Public Debut at Goodwood Festival of Speed
The battery-driven iteration of the French automaker’s iconic sports car made its much-anticipated public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. On Thursday, attendees witnessed the sleek design of the A110 Future taking on the challenging hill climb, albeit in development mule form.
A Performance to Remember
Behind the wheel was BWT Alpine Formula One Team driver Pierre Gasly. As he navigated Goodwood’s renowned course with the Duke of Richmond as his passenger, Gasly was guided to maintain a cautious approach. Nonetheless, footage captured during the run illustrated the car’s remarkable ability to handle the 1.17-mile track featuring nine turns effortlessly.
Innovative Electric Performance
Gasly commented, “Alpine continues to demonstrate that an electric sports car can be lighter, sharper, and incredibly enjoyable to drive. I am eager to see what the future holds and hope everyone appreciated this showcase today.”
A Work in Progress
Although described as a development mule, the A110 Future features an all-new Alpine Performance Platform. This modular design replaces the previous model’s 1.8-liter turbocharged inline-four engine with dual electric motors positioned on the rear axle.
Advanced Electric Technology
The so-called “dual E-motor” setup draws power from an impressive 800-volt battery system, distributing 75% of its power to the rear and 25% to the front. This rear-biased configuration, alongside a torque vectoring system, ensures handling comparable to classic mid-engine sports cars while leaving room for potential future enhancements, including a front motor.
Ambitious Goals for Performance
Alpine CEO Philippe Krief previously announced an ambitious target of 464 horsepower for the A110 Future, exceeding the output of the A110 R Ultime by over 100 horsepower. The brand is dedicated to maintaining a weight below 3,000 lbs, promising a driving experience significantly lighter than most performance-oriented EVs on the market today.
