Baden-Württemberg stands out in the German culinary scene with its impressive 76 starred restaurants and 90 Michelin stars. This southwestern region of Germany showcases a diverse gastronomic landscape, offering everything from prestigious Michelin stars to Bib Gourmand selections. The rich variety of flavors extends throughout the area and celebrates both traditional and innovative cuisine.
Last week, the Karlsruhe Concert Hall hosted the unveiling of the latest Michelin Guide edition, and many southern German establishments earned new stars. Among the notable achievements, Thorsten Bender’s restaurant, sein in Karlsruhe, was awarded a second star, joining an elite group. Additionally, Mühle at Schluchsee, led by chef Niclas Nussbaumer, also secured its position in the two-star category.
The one-star category saw significant movement, with nine restaurants from Baden-Württemberg earning their stars. Furthermore, the region also recognized outstanding achievements within the culinary community. Christophe Meyer of Le Pavillon in Bad Peterstal-Griesbach was honored for his exceptional sommelier skills, while Alina Meissner-Bebrout, head chef at bi:braud in Ulm, received the Young Chef Award as her restaurant achieved its first star this year.
For Karlsruhe, the Michelin Guide’s recognition marks the beginning of a year filled with gastronomic opportunities, as the city embraces the theme “Karlsruhe. Have you tried it?” The city offers an abundance of culinary experiences, including gourmet restaurants, vibrant bars mixing inventive cocktails, beer gardens, and creative ice cream shops. Experiences such as culinary tours and hands-on cooking classes are designed to highlight the region’s diverse offerings.
“Karlsruhe aligns perfectly with our annual theme this year, ‘The taste of the South,’” remarked Andreas Braun, managing director of Tourismus Marketing GmbH Baden-Württemberg (TMBW). He emphasized the city’s sunny disposition and creative dining establishments as hallmarks of its culinary scene. The year promises events such as culinary city tours, wine seminars, and the Karlsruhe Festival of the Senses, inviting visitors to explore the plethora of dining options and the renowned hospitality of Baden.
